READ Arthur Ernest
Born: 19/07/1880 Redfern NSW
Died: 20/05/1950 Griffith NSW
Family stories maintain that Arthur left home and went to England specifically to join the army
and hopefully go to war. His age at enlistment was 14, but he had given year of birth as 1876 instead
of 1880. He served in India, South Africa and travelled between England and Europe with troops during WW1.
In 1921 Arthur returned to Australia and moved on to a soldier settler’s farm at Griffith around 1923.
